Women of childbearing age ovulate every month. This means that one of the two ovaries releases an egg after it has matured in the ovaries. When the tiny egg, which measures approximately 0.15 cm, is released, it becomes trapped in the woman's fallopian tube and now begins a journey of an average of 5 days before it reaches the uterus. The process is promoted by the ovulatory hormone LH, which rises significantly 24-36 hours before ovulation.
There is now a chance of pregnancy if the egg meets a sperm within 24 hours after ovulation which succeeds in penetrating the egg and fertilizing it. Read more about ovulation here: (link: What is ovulation and when is the best chance of getting pregnant?)
What does a positive ovulation test mean?
The ovulation test measures the concentration of LH. This means that when the test is positive, the woman will ovulate within the next 24 hours. Therefore, it is important to have intercourse during this period, as the chance of pregnancy is greatest in the next 2-3 days. You should also have sex in the days leading up to ovulation, so that you are sure that there are sperm in the uterus and fallopian tubes when ovulation occurs.
What does a positive ovulation test look like?
If your ovulation test shows two lines and the test line (T) is stronger or as strong as the control line (C), then you have a positive ovulation test. A positive ovulation test means that you will ovulate within the next 24 hours.

When is the best time to have sex?
It is important to have intercourse when you have had a positive ovulation test, and the chance of pregnancy is greatest if you have sex in the next 2-3 days. You should also have sex in the days leading up to ovulation, so you are sure that there are sperm in the uterus and fallopian tubes when ovulation occurs.
When the ovulation test looks almost positive but is still negative
Many find that the ovulation test almost looks positive, and have doubts as to whether it might be positive. This can especially happen when the line in the test field (T) is almost as clear as the line in the control field (C). But as long as the test line is not as clear or more clear than the control line, then the ovulation test is negative.
However, a control line that is almost as clear as the test line can be a clear indicator that you are close to ovulating and can therefore benefit from testing again soon to be sure of catching the positive ovulation test and thereby ovulation.
