Ovitrelle is a medicine used infertility treatment. It contains the substance choriogonadotropin, which is a copy of the pregnancy hormone hCG. Ovitrelle is very similar to the luteinizing hormone (LH), which is why it is used to induce ovulation in women undergoing fertility treatment
The substance is used for women who have undergone ovarian stimulation treatment and need to ovulate. Ovitrelle is taken by injection24-48 hours after the woman has produced sufficient eggs for ovulation, and ovulation occurs 36 hours after the injection.
Ovitrelle and positive pregnancy test
As Ovitrelle contains a copy of the pregnancy hormone hCG, a pregnancy test will be positive shortly after the injection. This is because the pregnancy test precisely measures the pregnancy hormone and therefore becomes positive if that level is elevated.
When is Ovitrelle out of the body? (And when can you therefore trust a pregnancy test?)
The half-life of Ovitrelle is approximately 30 hours. This means that after 30hours there are 125 micrograms of choriogonadotropin (copy of hCG) left. So, half of the 250 micrograms, which is the usual dose in fertility treatment. After 60 hours there are 62.5 micrograms left and after 90 hours there are 31.5micrograms. If the body breaks down the hormone on average, it will be out of the body after 330 hours. So, 11 days. However, most fertility clinics usually say between 8-14 days.
If you are curious about when exactly Ovitrelle is out of your body, you can test it out of your body by taking a pregnancy test from 5 days after the injection and then testing daily until there is no longer a line on your pregnancy test. When the test has become completely negative, Ovitrelle is out of the body, and then a positive pregnancy test should mean that you are pregnant.
