All pregnancy tests work pretty much the same way. Namely to measure the level of Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (HCG) in the body. The hormone rises and doubles every three days when an egg is fertilized and has implanted.

A positive pregnancy test therefore means that you are pregnant. All the tests that can be bought at Gravidtid.dk are more than 99% safe and are CE-approved, which means that they are approved for sale in Europe. See our selection of pregnancy tests here: Graviditetstests – Gravidtid

Weak positive pregnancy test

First, it is important to remember that a positive pregnancy test is a positive pregnancy test. This means that the test has measured hCG in your urine, and it would not be there if you were not pregnant. Unfortunately, this does not mean that the pregnancy cannot go away on its own again.

The body only begins to produce the pregnancy hormone HCG when the fertilized egg has settled in the uterine cavity. But it does so only after a journey through the fallopian tube, which can take from a day to a week, without it being abnormal.

This also meanst hat you may experience that you are further or shorter in your pregnancy, because the journey may have taken shorter or longer than expected. If, for example, the egg has spent a week on its journey through the fallopian tube, you may therefore also run the risk of only having a positive pregnancy test a few days after a missed period. If you are pregnant, but test early or, moreover, only on the day of expected menstruation, this may therefore mean that the test is still weakly positive at a time when you can see that others have very clear lines on their positive pregnancy test.

No development in the weakly positive pregnancy test

First, it is important to remember that the hCG hormone doubles every three days at the beginning of pregnancy. Therefore, it will not be surprising or abnormal that the test may not look more positive if you take a new one a full or half a day after your first positive test (not that we do not understand the need)

If you take a new pregnancy test early in your pregnancy, the positive result may also be less clear or without development, if you now take the test at a time when your urine is thinner because, for example, you have just drunk a lot of liquid or if, it has been less than 4 hours since you last urinated.

If the pregnancy test continues to be weak over several days, it can unfortunately also indicate that the pregnancy has returned on its own. According to the Danish Health Authority, 15-20% of all pregnancies end in spontaneous abortion, and here the vast majority occur within the first 12 weeks of pregnancy. If the positive test continues unchanged and you do not get your period, it is recommended that you see your doctor. Here, the doctor will typically take a blood test on you, which will show your exact hCG level. The blood samples will be taken over several days to see if the hCG number increases. If the number drops, it indicates that you are about to miscarry. If the hCG does not rise, it may also indicate a pregnancy that is outside the uterus

If the positive pregnancy test becomes weaker

As in the example above, a weaker pregnancy test can have completely harmless explanations, such as that you take the next test so quickly that your hCG level has not yet risen or because you take a new test where your urine is thinner than when you took the first weakly positive test. Please wait at least a day or more if you want to confirm the positive pregnancy test. And remember to avoid drinking a lot before you test, just as you should ideally avoid going to the toilet for 4 hours before you want to test.

If the test continues to get weaker over a longer period of time, it unfortunately indicates either a miscarriage or an ectopic pregnancy. Here you are encouraged to see your doctor, who can help you clarify what the increasingly weak pregnancy test means.
