When your ovulation test becomes positive, you are advised to have intercourse on the same day and again within the next 24 hours to maximise your chances of becoming pregnant.
It is also beneficial to have intercourse in the days leading up to a fully positive test, as sperm can survive in the female reproductive system for up to 5 days. If one of these sperm meets an egg after ovulation, it can fertilise the egg and result in pregnancy.
Gravidtid Early Pregnancy Test Stick has a sensitivity of 10 mIU/ml for the pregnancy hormone hCG. You can test with the Gravidtid Early Pregnancy Test from 9 days after fertilisation or 5 days before your expected period.
We recommend testing with first morning urine if you want to take an early pregnancy test before your expected period, as hCG levels are highest in the concentrated morning urine.
Pregnancy tests today are of such high quality that they are more than 99% accurate from the day of your expected period. The same applies to the Gravidtid Early Pregnancy Test Stick.
When using an early pregnancy test and testing before your expected period, the accuracy is lower. Clinical studies on most early tests show, for example, that around 70% of pregnant women will get a positive result 4 days before their expected period.
This means you can still be pregnant even if you get a negative result when testing early.
If you test early, you may also detect a biochemical pregnancy — a pregnancy that ends very early in the first few days after fertilisation. In these cases, you may get a faint positive result that becomes weaker over the next days, and possibly completely negative by the time of your expected period.
In short, a woman’s temperature rises by 0.2–0.5°C on the day after ovulation because of the hormone progesterone. It then stays at this higher level during the second half of the cycle until menstruation begins and the cycle starts over.
This means that if you measure your temperature every day, you will be able to see when you ovulate and when you have the highest chance of becoming pregnant through intercourse or insemination.
